Chapter 3

The pain was like nothing else Tim had ever experienced, and he’d experienced quite a bit of pain in his line of work. He was witnessing the body transfer with his own eyes, and he felt everything that he saw: the transferring of blood, tissue, skin, it was all live. He knew of Matt’s ability and was heretofore able to avoid it. What he was not aware of, however, was that he was able to lend this ability to others. Going through the same hell was Victoria, at the hands of Adrienne, Matt’s second-in-command and fiercest bitch he’d ever encountered. Designed as a Botswanian beauty, long, lean, stealthy, black as jet, Tim was only aware of her abilities to go clear, fly, and run faster than any cheetahs she would have encountered in her homeland, had she actually been born in Botswana. Matt had to be lending it to her. Tim could only hope for death to come in the next second, for both he and Victoria. He was surprised that they both hadn’t died of shock by now.

As he wished, the pain was over almost as soon as it had begun, though death did not come for neither he nor Victoria. He collapsed to the floor following the transfer, recovering from the experience; Victoria followed a few minutes later. They both woke a few hours later to find themselves in the real offices of the Eradicator complex, in a small conference room used for discussing strategy.

Victoria was not adjusting well to waking up as a statuesque Black woman, and was very frantic; Tim just sat, looking at Matt with a gaze that could peel the paint off a concrete wall. Except he wasn’t looking at Matt, but at himself. While he was aware of Matt’s ability to transfer forms, it was still unsettling. He would not let on that he was feeling this way.

“Shut her up, Tim,” said Matt. “We have much to discuss.” “I’m not responsible for her, you captured her, you control her,” said Tim, never changing his expression. If Victoria was frantic before, she was even more so now, with Tim’s seeming disregard for her safety and Adrienne advancing on her, looking to cause her great harm. She bolted from her chair, and was on the other side of the room in a split-second. It was unexpected and came as a shock to Tim, though he was careful not to let on with that, either. Apparently not only did their forms transfer, but their abilities did, as well. Tim thought to file this away for later.

Smirking with the satisfaction of making Victoria run, Adrienne made her way back to her leader’s side. She seemed either totally oblivious to the fact that Victoria now possessed one of her abilities, or was just not that concerned by it. Victoria was quiet, more from trying to process this new ability, than from the threat of harm Adrienne could inflict upon her. Quiet was quiet, however, so Matt continued.

“I cannot tell you how pleased I am to have you as my guest,” said Matt. “Although I did not plan for this occasion, it has afforded me a new opportunity, given a much needed boost to my plans. I now have a way into your world, Tim. I can now move about freely, without the threat of persecution. The speed with which I planned to implement my scheme is now increased. Thank you so very much,” Matt said with a bow.

Tim sat silent.

“I must inform you, however, that this trade, of course, will not be fair. While I will once again be free to roam the streets outside of this facility, you, my dear friend, will be held captive here from now until I choose to end your miserable existence. You have my word that you will be the last organic to die, Tim, because I want to take my time and savor each and every moment of pain I will afford you upon my return. Until then, you will be held in relative comfort, in our living quarters,” Matt motioned towards Adrienne, “with one of my personal aides programmed to make sure that you are kept well-fed. This “kindness” is being bestowed upon you not because I have developed a kinship toward, you, no – but because I would like to soften you, relax your defenses, before I take you away from this world. A double-edged sword, indeed, but what can you do? Oh, that’s right, nothing at all,” he said, with a cliché evil villain laugh. “Of course, I’m sure you know that escape will be impossible. My armed forces commander, Alex, has set up a special defense unit for the complex, preventing escape from any and all outlets for a 10-mile radius. So you see Tim, it’d be in everyone’s best interest if you just sit back, relax, and enjoy these last days of yours while you can. Truthfully, it’s the only thing I’m allowing you to do.”

Tim remained silent.

“I see you need time to soak all of this in. It’s only understandable. Adrienne, let us show our guests to their suite. It’s time we got about our business. She’s wailing especially loud today. I seek to comfort her as soon as possible,” said Matt.

Matt and Adrienne took their respective captives by the arm (they were both bound by the wrists behind their backs), and guided them to their spacious four-bedroom suite. Although they were not programmed to want to marry, and were not created as breeders, they had no need of their own for the extra space, but often entertained the children of their aides, who were breeders, from time to time. Tim and Victoria were shown to the master suite, a beautiful feat of expert architecture and interior design. These two highly-evolved androids may not be programmed to feel “weak” human emotion, but they had an eye for beauty nonetheless.

“Here you are, you rascals,” said Matt. “Your bindings will fall off in about 15 minutes or so. Soon after that, as a precaution, the suite will begin to emit a calming mood gas, to keep you docile, in case you think you are going to attack your attendant and escape. Outside of escaping, you are free to do whatever you please. As you can see, this master suite is equipped with all the toys money can buy, but if you desire more “organic” accoutrements, then just let your attendant know, and it will be delivered to you. We must leave you now. Don’t you kids do anything we wouldn’t do,” said Matt with a sly wink, then both he and Adrienne left.

Victoria began to try to shrug out of her bindings, only to find them getting tighter. “You probably just wanna wait until they fall off,” said Tim. “They’re made kinda like Chinese finger cuffs – the more you fight, the tighter they get.” “ARE YOU NUTS?!!” screamed Victoria. “I DON’T WANNA SIT HERE AND WAIT TO DIE!!! WE’VE GOT TO ESCAPE!!!”

Tim looked at her with a mixture of serenity and extreme annoyance. “To answer your question, yes, I am nuts. And that’s exactly how we’re going to escape.”
